Day One: Sunday July 31
Sunday
Evening
We have arrived safely, and have moved into the house where we will be spending
the week. There are two groups staying in the main dormitory area where we
stayed last year. This year the old offices have been renovated for housing and
we have moved in there.
It’s going to be a “girls” week here. We, of course, have a 10 to 3
ratio of females to males. One of the other groups here is from a
Catholic girls school – they have 25 girls plus 9 adults (four males in the
group). The third group of 16 is from an RCA congregation, they do have several
guys in their group, but not enough to even things out for square dancing on
Thursday!
Nevertheless, when Scott and Anne (two of the long-term volunteers) set up a
hammering “contest”, (see photo below) four of our crowd made it to the finals: Kaitlyn, Beth,
Wendy and Kim. We had fun and practiced our skills for
tomorrow.
Of course, we are going to bed unsure of what tomorrow will bring. Greg did not
know what our assignment for this week would be, but
talked of building a porch or doing some framing. So we will find out tomorrow
morning at the opening meeting.
More tomorrow, keep us in your prayers.
