Building Update – August 25, 2010
WOW!
What a difference a day makes!
When I arrived at the church for our weekly jobsite meeting on Tuesday, August 24 at 7:30 AM, there was a very large
stack of new trusses in the parking lot, a huge hole where our roof had been and a very large crane being set up next to the building in the parking lot.
As I watched with amazement, the first replacement truss was lifted into the air and swung into place on at the far end of the sanctuary. A 2 ½ day process, I was told, to get all of the new trusses in place.
When I stopped by late in the evening, there were no trusses left in the parking lot and no crane in evidence. I don’t know how late the workers stayed to get all of the new trusses are in place, but they did an amazing job getting all 31 trusses (with the correct size plates) installed in 1 day. Today the plywood installation begins. By the weekend, the plywood should be covered with felt paper with shingles to follow next week.
Once the roof is complete and the exterior trim back in place, the interior work can begin. There is lots to do inside, from the electrical and heating/cooling work, to rebuilding the chancel, replacing the finished floor and all of the painting.
We continue to be blessed with good weather and the work is proceeding to get us back into our sanctuary as soon as possible. Please continue to pray for the safety of all those who are working to repair God’s building at 3600 Leap Rd.
We will certainly have cause for celebration as we see the progress of rebuilding the sanctuary when we join together on Sunday, August 29 for Commitment Sunday for our Building Fund Campaign.
Peace and Grace,
Dave Norton, Building Committee Chair
